A snowy time for kids

The snow arrived as the weather had threatened for days. It quickly covered the ground. Chrail and Öreis had, as luck would have it, prepared for the snow. They used the basement as a food storage but to access it you needed to go outside of the cabin and to the side of the cabin. If the snow was coming, they both agree, it would make it hard for them to access the food they had stored there - and if the four eggs that laid nestled in the bedroom on a pile of the softest materials they could’ve found where to hatch, they would need food. So the two raptors had carried food into the cabin from the basement to prepare for the snow. It had been in the air for days. The frost had been never ending. The cold but refreshingly clear skied days had been a quiet threat of what was to come and suddenly it came in droves. The door was quickly blocked by the snow. Chrail tried to push it open and he could to a certain degree. If they both worked together they probably could. But for now they focused on staying warm and safe inside of the cabin. When the storm started to slow down they could get to work on getting the door opened.
Öreis nudged one of the eggs. It was dark in the cabin now. A clear sign of the storm still raging outside. It should be day but the sky was dark. He thought, for a moment, that he could almost see the egg glow slightly. It must have been because they had already been stuck in the house for about a day. But there was the tiniest hint of a red glow. He moved the eggs closer together. The windows of the cabin were covered in planks with the glass planes intact underneath. But there was still a slight draft as the winds beat on the walls. They needed to protect the eggs from that wind. Anything that could happen to the eggs. You could argue that they were slightly overprotective of the eggs but this was their first time as parents. Either of them. And they had no one to teach them how to do it correctly. They had to learn. But any mistakes could cost them a child.
“This one,” Öreis pointed at the egg, carefully as to not accidentally poke it with his claw, “it may sound weird. But I think it glowed.”
“I think you’re right. But I don't think that’s.. Normal?” Chrail tilted his head slightly as he took a closer look.
“What if that’s how it’s supposed to be?” Öreis almost shuddered at the thought that all except one egg would never hatch.
As they looked closer at all the other eggs one of them made the smallest of twitches. Öreis had to manage his excitement. But it made the question more so. Why would one of them glow?
“There’s probably nothing we could do.” Chrail shook his head. “If there wasn’t a snowstorm outside I would suggest running to the nearby place on the opposite side of the river to see if anyone has experience. But right now I think we can only wait.”
The logic was sound. Öreis carefully placed his feathery tail over all four of the eggs.
“It’s scary. Exciting. But scary.” He sighed deeply as he laid his head down. Chrail laid his feathery tail above Öreis' tail. He carefully buffed one of the eggs closer in under the feathers under the watchful eye of Öreis. Then he laid his head down so that they were barely centimeters away from each other. Encircling the eggs to near perfection. The comfort they could’ve had was traded for what they believed was the safety of the eggs.

The snow kept beating on the outside of the walls as the two raptors slept uneasy. Any moments made them bolt open their eyes to check around them.
It took a few more hours until the storm started to ease up. As the two raptors laid in the small room. They looked at each other as if to concur that the wind had eased a bit but both of them decided to lay down. There still wasn’t much to do before the wind stopped completely. Öreis lifted his and Chrail’s tail slightly. The eggs laid still.
It took another few hours before the wind had subsided enough for Chrail to stand up and check on the door. Öreis could hear a few shoves and some rustling as the Green raptor tried to get the door open.
The yellow raptor carefully and slowly rose up as well before he exited the room into the slightly bigger entry room. Chrail had his nose outside. So he had clearly managed to get the door up slightly.
“It looks like we’re completely snowed in right now.” They both ruffled up their feathers.
“What luck that we prepared ourselves for it.” Öreis also stuck his nose out in an attempt to see the outside and get some of that fresh, cold air.
“I guess we have a great excuse to just be inside and wait.” Chrail struck his head over Öreis’ shoulders.
