And so, it begins..
Obscura | AberrantKapro
While the now lone pachy, due to her upbringing, often preferred to hunt a variety of creatures and feast on meat, she had recently started to try and broaden her palette by trying out different fruits and berries. Everything was tasting so much better than she could have ever imagined. Obscura of course couldn't blame her carnivorous foster family for not telling her, as they themselves most likely had no idea or would even agree about the exquisite flavor, but she was still a little bit bummed out that she hadn't had the chance to experience these delicacies as a little hatchling.
While the brown, laced pachy was focused on foraging for tasty treats in the dense vegetation covering the forest floor, she was still very much aware of her surroundings, and she immediately looked up with her sharp green gaze once she heard some dry twigs snap not too far away in the dark woods. She wiggled and twitched her blushed snout as she was sniffing for whoever was hiding behind the foliage and slowly approached, seeing as the scent didn't seem like it was from anything too dangerous.
Whoever she was approaching had also started to move towards her by the time she had taken a few steps, and in front of her a muted green creature emerged from the brushes, a styra with a beautiful crest stood before her, and Obscura tilted her head with her pale face having curiosity written all over. She had never met one peacefully like this before and was unsure how to tackle the situation. Her hunter instincts were telling her that the seemingly docile herbivore was food and that taking her by surprise like this could be to her advantage, but something deep within held her back from attacking.
“Who might you be?” Obscura asked while stuffing her mouth full of some delicious blueberries to satiate her growing hunger. Table manners wasn't her strongest suit, but she was also just doing her best to restrain herself and her bloodlust, she knew that she couldn't take down a styra on her own anyway, but the gnawing lust for a hunt was lingering despite this knowledge.

The simple green Styra had often found herself alone yet again. She preferred the lonesome existence. She could do whatever she preferred. She could walk away, leave everything behind while others preferred to sit down and build forever homes. She could explore and find herself a way through the world. She wasn’t against the company of other dinosaurs. But she could in fact live without it. And thrive. It was perhaps part of it that she had not yet found anyone to share this lifestyle with or someone to give up this lifestyle for.
This day was not much different. She was out on her own with no particular goal in mind other than finding her way to some tasty treats that could satisfy her hunger. She had found some along the way. But she was looking for something specific. Something she couldn’t really put her horn on exactly what it was. She was sure that she would find it eventually. And if she didn’t, well there was always a day tomorrow. She was still moving carefully through the vegetation. She wasn’t quiet per say. But She was on her watch. Making sure she saw what could see her.
The Pachy seemed to have still seen her first. A Pachy, all by itself, wasn't a big threat. At least not in Irody’s mind. The majority of ones she had previously met were always kind and helpful, if perhaps a bit territorial. She stopped as she looked at her, taking in her stance. Seeing if she was a threat or friend.
Who might you be?
Irody decided to trust the Pachy who was stuffing her face full of blueberries. Sure they wouldn’t be the best of buddies and skip through fields together. But she could always keep her distance for now.
“I’m Irody.” She looked over the Pachy. Finding her lack of introduction rather more rude than her stuffing her face full of blueberries while talking. “And who are you?” She kept glancing over the laced brown look of the Pachy. Much more intriguing than her own green colour. It was beautiful. The spots woven into each other on her back and the white on her feet, face and tail contrasting her brown colour yet not minimizing it. She would however have to wait, to see who this Pachy really was before she made any assumptions of safety.

Obscura swayed her tail calmly, almost like a content cat, in anticipation of the spiked styra’s response. She seemed cautious, not that the pachy could blame her, it was in fact very clever to be on the lookout. Who knows what lurks in the shadows?
I'm Irody. And who are you?
Irody, what a beautiful name.. the almost entranced omnivore thought to herself before snapping out of it to be polite and respond in return.
“My adoptive father named me Obscura, because he had to hide me away to keep me safe.” The laced pachy responded as she chuckled at the thought of her father panicking about her safety. “He always means well.” she added, but then felt a bit awkward and looked down on her pale feet.
Why was she sharing all this irrelevant information to a complete stranger? Why did she always end up taking over conversations by adding a bunch of unnecessary things when speaking? She felt a bit ashamed of herself and dug her toes in the moss beneath her, anxiously munching on some berries. She tried to shake her mind out of the clouds, so to speak, and once again looked up at the beautiful herbivore in front of her.
“So, what exactly brings you out here on a lovely night like this?” Obscura asked, as a frog comedically leaped between them with a loud croak. The pachy did everything in her might to keep laughter back and ended up snorting weirdly in the process.
“Sorry about that..” she almost whispered, but she just couldn't get the scene out of her head and kept having to hold her laughter back.
“I know you have no reason to trust me.. Yet.. But if you want some food I am willing to share these with you, they're quite tasty.” Obscura said and gesticulated to her small hoard of berries in a pile on the ground, with some stray berries scattered around after her having grabbed some previously.
“I don't plan on biting, I promise.” she added with a joking, yet slightly menacing tone, which she immediately internally questioned. Why couldn't she just shut up after making a kind offer, like a normal dinosaur would? She nervously scratched her cheek, wondering if she had messed up, if the chance to possibly forge a friendship was now gone.

Irody looked at the Pachy as she spoke, taking in all the information. There was a certain intriguing feeling inside of her that made her make an effort to place it somewhere valuable in her mind palace and she couldn’t really understand why. She wanted to remember the information. She wanted to keep it for the future, but what in the future could this information be of any use for? Irody nodded as she spoke.
“Obscura, it’s a beautiful name.”
Irody watched as the frog leaped between them. For a moment she wanted to squash it for ruining their beautiful moment but thought better of it.
“Sometimes I like to walk among the stars.” Irody turned her gaze up on the starry sky. “It makes me feel comforted, to walk in only the moon and stars light, a cold embracing light older than all of us.” She turned her head back down to earth. Back to Obscura as she showcased the berries she had collected. It must be nice to have hands and carry things. Irody nodded slightly as she spoke but didn’t say anything. She was trying to check all the berries under the limited night light. To check if any of them were of the deadly kind. They weren’t. She couldn’t tell if Obscura was good at finding berries or just lucky.
“Thank you. I would love some.” She gave a big smile as she reached down to pick some of the berries up.
