Scrambled Eggs
Little Big Bertha had been prowling the woods for a while now. Her stomach growled, and she had to find something to eat soon. The large Acrocanthosaurus, even for just a juvenile, had heavy footsteps. Her tail swayed, and her feathers brushed against the wind. Lifting her head up, she opened her jaws, like she had seen a critter do in the past. Attempting to get a smell on the wind. After a couple of moments, she caught wind of something. Turning her head, her pink eyes scanning the brush. The theropod slowly attempted to make her way towards the scent. What could it be? She hadn't smelt it before. Was this a good idea? Going towards something she had no knowledge of? Ah, well she was big.. She would be fine.. Right?
The forest grew thin, and more thin as she kept moving forward, where she found an opening. A large place in the forest, where the tree’s didn’t grow. There it was, some food.. Just laying on the ground. Well.. it didn’t look like food, but it smelt like it. But what was that next to them? Something laid next to it. Slowly stepping out, the dinosaur laid with the nest lifted its head, turning around and quickly spotting the young female. Getting up quickly, the mother got on top of its nest. Hissing and tossing its head around.
Bertha was hungry.. She wouldn't let a threatening bellow chase her off now. Letting out the fiercest little roar a juvenile could muster, the future beast lifted her head. Her feathers fluffed out as she did so. Stepping forward, the small hunter lowered her head, aligning with her back. She had never been in a fight, nor had she seen one. But she was willing to try, instincts taking control. Leading a scavenge dog to its prey. The Pachy mother let out another threatening bellow, swinging her head aggressively. “STAY BACK!”
As Bertha got closer, she really underestimated how big this omnivore was… but she was too close now. “I'm hungry! I'm a hunter! I'm gonna eat you! Or those.. Eggs!” Bertha announced.. Should she be talking to her prey? Would other carnivores look down on her for it? She didn't know, and the rumble of her stomach did not allow her to back down. Without warning, the pachy charged, letting out a screech as she ran forward. Her eyes widened, as she arched her back and shoulders, and braced herself, pain shattering her stance as she flew backwards and hit the ground. Angry snorting could be heard above her, which Bertha quickly rolled and kicked out. A pained cry could be heard, opening her eyes while hearing the ringing in her ears… did she do that? DIDN'T matter! She wiggled to get up quickly and lunged out and used her teeth. Grabbing at the neck of the other. The taste of iron washed on her tongue, pulling back, but clamping her jaws down harder, as the pachy lashed around. Attempting to fling the other off of her. Tiny arms could be felt smacking at Bertha’s chest. Before finally Bertha lost her grip as it felt as if her tiny teeth would rip out of her jaws. The pachy coughed, and stumbled back, as Bertha found her footing. Huffing, and shaking her head to try to focus. Before rushing forward and snapping at the pachys feet, she wasn't sure if it would help, but it proved her right when the same thick skull slammed into her side, shoving her down. Something cracked under her. Wet, and gooey. GROSS it was in her feathers. Bertha lifted her head, snapping her jaws in an attempt to chase them off of her, needing to find escape.. She wasn't going to win this. She would go hungry again. But she could only let out a pained cry as another blow from the mothers skull slammed down onto her shoulders. Landing against the nest once again. Groaning, attempting to get up. Only to be striked down once again. Again and Again. “Stay down! You’ll learn to never go near a mothers nest again!” “You're breaking them!” “what?”
With that, the mother backed up, allowing a moment's pause in the fight. Heavy breaths, as the small dinosaur got up. Shaking her feathers out, egg shells and goo fell from her feathers. The mothers face seemed to grow pale, as her precious nest was destroyed. The dinosaur ran over, looking down, letting out a mournful cry. As Bertha attempted to leave the mother to her sorrows. She only got to the edge of the tree line before the same harsh, pained feeling, bone shattering slam landed on her tail end. “HOW COULD YOU??” the mother cried, her tail lashing as she knocked the child around. The small apex landed on the ground with a grunt, attempting to get up and run. Getting slammed into again, an angry, pained snort of the crying mother sounded off. The sounds of the pain from the pachy would have made her guilty, if it hadn't been the mothers fault. SHE pushed HER into the nest! After a couple more blows, Bertha couldn't take it much longer. With the last ounce of strength the arco turned and lashed out, gathering all she could musher, sinking her teeth into scales. And eyes. Dragging her fangs through the hard flesh, the pachy thrashed around, and threw the small hatchling into a tree. Which gave her time to run away. Bertha, whined. Groaned as she got up, and slowly dragged her battered and broken body away. Not getting far, before landing in a hole in the ground. Curling up and shivering. The colder months were coming.. She was hungry.. And just got her little feathered tail absolutely kicked. Letting out a shaky whine, tears built up in the small apex’s eyes. Bertha blinked, and blinked, trying to get them away, she’s not supposed to cry. She has to kill to live.. Kill to eat. Yet here she is, sobbing. A failure.. Her final ounce of energy left, as she drifted off to sleep. Perhaps she will have better luck tomorrow. Perhaps the mother will have left her nest, and some eggs will be left to eat.. For now, her body needed rest. Everything hurt, everything ached. Maybe it will feel better tomorrow.. Tomorrow..
