Food for Kleo (age up)

The day was sunny and beautiful.
The sea glistened with juicy waves.
But it was often not as calm as it seemed under the surface.
The young Kleophia also had to learn this.
The dark atopodentatus with the golden stripes and belly searched cheerfully for something edible. The black spots were not particularly noticeable in her plumage, she was so dark.
Her stomach growled as she looked for seaweed and algae with her golden eyes.
As a baby, she was separated from her parents in a terrible storm.
Desperately, she wished for her mother. She would certainly know what to do.
Because a group of killer whales were hunting and playing in her usual feeding ground.
Even the sharks were staying away now.
Kleophia instinctively sensed that it would be safer to feed somewhere else first.
The rocky ground did not provide the ideal habitat for many plants.
Very short algae grew on some of the stones.
‘Better than nothing,’ thought Kleo and swam closer.
Even though her wide mouth was made for grazing under water, these algae held on surprisingly tightly.
She plucked at the green with great effort. What's more, this variety didn't even taste particularly good. Kleophia had the feeling that she was starving while eating, which of course wasn't true. It was just so tiring.
On top of that, she constantly had to go to the surface to breathe.
She sometimes envied the fish with their gills.
They could stay underwater and eat for as long as they wanted. But now Kleo had to go up.
Using her long tail as propulsion, she shot to the surface.
The salt water sprayed out of her nostrils as two small fountains as Kleo breathed out the old residual air. Relaxed, the atopodentatus floated in the gentle waves for a while, taking in the fresh air in peace.
Kleophia enjoyed it immensely every time before diving back into a realm of apparent weightlessness. To her regret, however, a pair of grey angelfish had made a raid on her greenery.
The fish presented themselves menacingly and made humming noises.
Even though the angelfish were only 50cm long and Kleophia was no longer a baby, the behaviour of the fish impressed her so much that she kept her distance and preferred to keep looking.
Kleophia swam at a steady pace so as not to miss anything.
And there! Just as she dived back down after another breath, she saw it: probably the tastiest seaweed she had ever had in front of her. At least that's what it looked like to her.
The lush green colour and luxuriant growth of the plants attracted Kleo like moths to a flame. She was too focussed on the future food, which also whetted her appetite.
She didn't ask herself why there were so few other animals eating over there. The seaweed grew as if on a platter.
Kleophia hurriedly swam towards it. With every stroke of her tail, she got faster and faster. But then... she couldn't make any more progress. Kleo suddenly moved backwards and to the side. She kicked slightly in panic, but could do no more than hold her position. In fact, Kleo was pulled off course by a strong current. Nothing helped. She let the current carry her back until it virtually stopped tugging at her.
She had never experienced anything like this before. But she had never experienced currents this strong before. What's more, her oxygen was running low due to the exertion. So Kleo soon surfaced again.
On the surface, she drifted a little to catch her breath.
The young atopodentatus thought hard. There was food, even very good food. But there was also a current, a very strong one.  It reminded her of the storm in which she had been separated from her parents. Okay, maybe the current wasn't soooooo strong, but more than enough to keep a cub like her from her food. Meanwhile, her stomach grumbled. It was no use. Kleo would have to face the problem or keep looking.
With this realisation, Kleophia dived down. She slowly swam closer and tested where the current began to pull on her. After a short time, it began to feel tiring to get any further, but it was not yet impossible. Perhaps a different angle would help? At least that's what she thought. So she dived deeper. Maybe she could find some protection there to get further. But unfortunately that wasn't the case. So maybe over it then? She swam up and down, but couldn't find a place where the current wouldn't sweep her away.
Annoyed and hungry, she looked again at the situation from the outside. The flow of water came from the right and travelled to the left over a very wide area. With her head tilted, Kleo pondered. From right to left...
She couldn't jump over it like a dolphin. She was too untalented in this discipline for that.
Just as she was thinking about taking the plunge, some of the aforementioned marine mammals swam past in the current.
The animals were playing. They let themselves be carried along to gain more speed before shooting out of the water in a breathtaking leap. Some of them even turned on their own axis.
Kleo was impressed by her ability to use the current to her advantage.
To use it for herself... But yes! Maybe that's how it works. Instead of fighting the current, Kleo thought about how she could use it to her advantage.
The dolphins left the current and swam past Kleo, only to swim back into the undertow further to her right and be swept away again.
That was it! Now Kleo had an idea! Surely it must be possible to leave the current on both sides?
So far so good. Kleo immediately set about realising her idea. Full of hope, she swam a long way to the right.
Kleo plucked up her courage and paddled as fast as she could towards the current.
And she was in it, but this time she didn't fight it. She let herself drift and rowed with her fins to the side where the seaweed was.
Gradually, she succeeded and came out only a short distance behind her destination. What luck! It had worked. She happily took another breath of air at the surface and went for the seaweed.
And indeed! The effort had been more than worth it. It tasted delicious and there was so much of it. She had really earned it.
