Disagreement- Age Up
Oceania was in the jungle above the beach she calls home, she was searching for some sort of food. But not only for her but for the nearly-found fawn as well. The poor thing…she was abandoned by her mother simply because she was blind!
Not that she could blame the mother though, she probably figured that taking care of a disabled baby would be too much to handle. And, this fawn is so sickly. She probably figured that she wouldn’t last too long anyway, so why not leave her?
As sick as it sounds, she understands it. Sure, she would never do it herself. Heck, she had to take care of her mother who was very sickly for the latter half of her life. But…She understands it. If it's for survival…yeah, she could understand it.
In any case, she needed to find some berries for the fawn to eat. She needs to eat something, after all. Though…Oceania wasn’t sure which berries a deer would eat. What if she picks something that could poison the fawn? Oh, that’ll be awful-
Oceania suddenly stopped what she was doing, and she lifted her head. She isn’t certain, but she swore she heard what sounded like…a deer cry! And it sounded like it was coming from the beach!
Her yellow eyes widened, and she dropped what she was holding so her massive body could charge through the foliage. Oh, she knew it was a bad idea to leave her alone. But she had to! The jungle is too dangerous for a little thing such as her! But leaving her alone…someone or something could easily snatch her up.
She didn’t know what to do! And now she’s paying the price for it!
Her massive body dropped down from the cliff with ease, her clawed paws sending sand everywhere when she landed. Then her eyes scanned the beach and…
“Fawn!”
Oceania cried out, as she witnessed a green cryolophosaurus sticking its head into her cave. And she could hear the little cries of the baby deer deep inside of the cave. Her lips curled back and she ran straight at Ruth. Before Ruth could even turn she had gotten close enough so that her jaw snapped over the tail tip of Ruth, and she forcefully pulled her back from her cave.
“Why, hello there!” The female dino smirked at Oceania, “Rather rude of you to pull me away! There’s a deer in there! A baby too! She looks mighty tasty-”
“I know she’s in there! That is the home that you’re stepping into! And that’s my deer you’re scaring! Bug off!”
Ruth blinked and stared at Oceania like she suddenly grew three heads. “But…you’re an Albertosaurus… You’re a carnivore…like me? Why are you…” Then she suddenly grinned and laughed, “Oh! I understand it! You’re keeping her until she grows up so she’ll have more meat on her bones! That’s mighty smart of you, little one-”
“that’s not why I’m keeping her with me.” Oceania glares. “She’s my friend. I’m taking care of her. Her mother abandoned her so it's my duty to take care of her-”
“You’re taking CARE of it?!” That caused Ruth to laugh even harder, and Oceania to get even more angry.
“yeah? What’s so funny?”
“We’re carnivores!! We EAT meat! We don’t take care of our meat!! My my, you are one weird wackadoodle! And here I thought I saw it all! Tell me, where is your mother? Maybe she can whack some sense into you-”
“My mother is dead.”
“Now THAT explains a lot there! You’re mother didn’t teach you what you should be eating, huh? She didn’t teach you much before she went five feet under, now, did she? What loads of use she was when she was alive, right? Or who knows, maybe she meant to do that. Maybe she knew you were too soft for this world, so instead of teaching you, she just decided to axe herself! I don’t blame her, if I had a daughter like you I would do the same thing!”
Oceania…was not one for violence or even anger. Ever since she was little not a lot of things really upset her, and when they did, she simply walked away from it. Or moved on. But this? Is Ruth insulting her mother like this?
Oceania saw red, and before she knew it, her body was flying at this younger hatchling dino.
“Woah! Mighty angry, now are we?” Even though the younger dino didn’t look it, she was fast. Very fast. And sadly, Oceania was slow.
“You take that back!”
“Take what back? That’s the truth and you know it!”
“That’s not the truth!”
“Says the dino who wants to raise meat like some cattle raiser! Are you sure you’re mother didn’t want to get away from you?”
“Would you just SHUT UP!” Oceania screamed at the top of her lungs.
“you’re still young. You don’t know the ways of the world. Course, I’m young too, but I’m a bit older than you, and even I know that we don’t raise meat! You really are stupid huh?”
No matter how hard Oceania tries, she just cannot snag a single claw on Ruth! How can she be this speedy and skilled at fighting when she is younger than Oceania! That doesn’t make any sense! She is just too slippery and tricky! To make matters worse, her mother never taught her any fighting moves. Yet…another thing that she didn’t teach her.
“Would you stop moving for once!!”
“Now why would I do that? This is fun! Let's keep this going, shall we-”
Ruth paused when she seemed to hear something behind her. Even Oceania came to a stop. They both turned to the sounds, and both of the dinos blinked.
The little fawn…she was growling and snarling at the green dino before Oceania. She was upset that someone was attacking Oceania.
And that made her heart melt at the sight. It was just too cute. She didn’t even know that the little one cared that much about her-
But her sweet thoughts were stopped by Ruth bursting up laughing at the sight.
“Aw!! Are you being a grumpy pants? How cute!! Come on! Show me your worst! Come on! Oh, yes, growl at me!! You’re so threatening!”
Wait, this is the perfect time for Oceania to make her move!
While Ruth was focusing on the fawn, Oceania stepped forward slowly…until she got close enough to bite the green one’s tail once again. Oceania used all of her strength to lift up the surprised Ruth into the air, and she came crashing down into the sand with a loud thud.
Then, Oceania stepped on the smaller one’s stomach and snarled in her face.
“Leave my home, and my fawn, alone. This is my home. And you’re not welcome.”
She was expecting Ruth to be scared, or even frightened, but instead Ruth only smirked.
“Is that it? Was that all you got? Don’t make me laugh.” The green one’s paw whipped up, and before Oceania could blink, she suddenly screeched in pain as she felt blood form on her skin.
She fell backward as she closed her eye, she could feel blood seeping into her eye.
“You’re such a weakling, no wonder why your mother left you.” Ruth huffed as she stepped away from Oceania. “Such a disappointment. You could’ve been amazing. You could’ve been a fierce Albertosaurus! But no… You’ve willingly reduced yourself to…this… Where even a small Cryolophosaurus like me could defeat you! What a waste of space you are.”
Oceania glances up with her one good yellow eye, to see the green one grinning down at her. The green one’s piercing blue eyes shone down on her, mocking her, and there was nothing she could do about it.
Oceania had never felt fear before, but right now, with Ruth grinning down at her, she felt true horror streaming through her blood. And she could barely move.
“Well, with that I’m going to take my prize and leave.”
“N-No-!”
“And what are you going to do to stop me, hatchling?”
Oceania has to move, she has to. If she doesn’t then…that poor fawn is going to die. Her one eye looked on in horror as the green one moved closer and closer to the terrified fawn. She needs to protect her! She needs to do…something!
But what could she do?
Ruth is right…she can’t do anything. She’s a hatchling who needs a proper parent to teach her things. And yet…she doesn’t have that. Her mother failed her. And now-
CRUNCH!
Oceania’s eyes widened as she watched Ruth’s fangs chomp down on the fawn's body. The little one only managed to produce a terrified squeak…before nothing. Her eyes slowly faded away into nothingness.
And now her mother has failed this fawn too.
Tears entered her eyes as she watched the blood drip onto the tan sand below the fawn, below Ruth. Nothing, she couldn’t have done anything to save her.
“Maybe now you’ll see how cruel this world is. And you’ll see that keeping these meat as pets won’t get you anywhere. It’s a pointless endeavor. If not then…I’ll come back later to kill your next pet! Have fun, deary!”
And with that the hatchling Cryo dino ran off into the jungle, leaving Oceania barely able to breathe. Her eyes couldn’t leave the huge amounts of blood that were being mixed into the sand.
It took her a long time, how long, she’s not sure, to finally be able to move. Slowly, she stood up…and walked over to the blood on the ground. There she fell to her knees, where her tears mixed into the red liquid and the sand.
She was beyond angry, not just with herself, not with her mother. She was right, and she couldn’t do anything about it.
No, she could do something.
She can get stronger. How she could do that, she’s not sure. But, she’ll get stronger so she can protect those she cares about. Her mother failed to show her how to be stronger, but where her mother failed…she will succeed. There won’t be another death on this beach. No. Not anymore. Not if she can help it.
