Waves washed ashore as the nighttime was setting over the island, it had been a couple of hot days for the last few weeks and most did enjoy it but some avoided it like the plague using the nighttime to be active instead. The sound of heavy footsteps in the sand could be heard as a large figure made her way down the cooling night beach as being out in the day was not working for her. Blue eyes scanned the area as she leaned down to sniff the sand shaking her head when the small bits blew up her nostrils. It was Dutchess, a large female feathered acrocanthosaurus, she had been resting for most of the day avoiding the summer heat and now was out on the prowl for a meal.
“ Finally some cool air, not that overheating summer heat I can finally focus” she growled to herself through her teeth, taking a spot as she heard frantic splashing off the shore a bit which caught her interest. As she approached closer she tilted her head as the feathers on her head opened in interest , it was something in the water but she wasn’t sure what it was.
“ I wonder what that could be , maybe prey? Need to get a better look” she mumbled to herself as she stepped into the water , her feathers now damp on her legs. A large splash of water flung up hitting Dutchess in the face soaking her as she tried to move out of the way but misstepped backwards, with a pain shooting into her leg followed by the smell of blood that spread into the water below her.
The pain was a sharp sting in her bottom of her leg which made her wince heavily, Dutchess looked down seeing a large fin that followed a dark figure in the water. A strange head with eyes that were black as the void, Dutchess letting out a roar and hiss of pain slamming her teeth into the back of the creature.
A leathery feeling filled the acro’s mouth as she felt her grip was slipping along with the ocean water not helping her case. “ What the hell is this thing! It bit me” she hissed out of her jaws, as water splashed from the large creature which was a hammerhead shark. She had never seen one before and it was putting up a fight as it used its size to splash around trying to knock over Dutchess, not letting go of her leg as the pain got worse.
With narrowed eyes Ducthess let go before slamming another harsh bite into the shark as it kept flopping in the water around her, an idea popping into the carnivore's head.
“If I can drag it onto shore It would be way easier to deal with it” She thought to herself as she started to step backwards towards the shore out of the ocean with all her might. As she dragged the shark she could see it starting to come out of the water as she stepped into the sand , seeing the hammerhead’s void like eyes and sharp rows of teeth latched around her ankle.
“Come on, you overgrown Fish! Let go of me that hurts” she hissed , getting closer to pulling it out as the flopping from the hammerhead was getting tired out and now running out of water due to being on the sand. With one final pull Dutchess felt the shark let go as she flopped over in the sand letting out an annoyed hiss as her feathers were now covered in sand.
“You will pay for that, I am dirty now least you will make a great night dinner” the acro said before landing one more killing blow bite into the hammerhead who gave a couple final flops before turning lifeless in the sand. A successful hunt provided by the hammerhead itself due to biting Dutchess in the first place, biting her was not a great idea and it paid with its life.
“Don’t you look different from the other sharks I have seen, never this big least around the reefs” she mumbled to herself as she looked at her bite on her ankle before shaking it off, it wasn’t too bad. With a quick look around and once more down at the hammerhead she began to dig into her seafood , letting out a chuckle as she smiled.
“ bit off a little more than you could chew this time buddy” Dutchess mumbled through chewing her shark meat as she got her fill from it, once full the large acro sat down in the sand enjoying the night sky with her well fought meal and close encounter with the new hammerhead sharks who had come due to the summer heat. It wouldn’t be the last time she would come across them.
Summer seasonal for Dutchess, those pesky Hammerheads!
