Not a Drill - (Summer Seasonal 2024)- Ouranos

The hot sun beat down on the island as the sound of rumbling and stomping echoed across the forest shaking the tree’s and pebbles on the ground, a large mass of long necked figures in the distance. It was a large herd of shunosaurus and they were on the search for water, many of them young who were trying to keep up to stay out of the heat, almost seeking shelter behind the adults. Ouranos was a large male stuck behind in the ranks also dreading the heat as he shook off his feathers to drown out some of the heat but to no avail , with an annoyed look across his face he let out a sigh before hearing fast stomping come from behind him.

“There’s the big guy, I couldn’t find you at the front of the herd I knew you snuck off to the back, why the long face” the very colorful female bellowed out to him, she went by the name Artorias and was a well known herd mate to Ouranos. The large male shook his head before lowering it “It’s to hot, I don’t know you are so spunky in this heat”

Ouranos said as he walked trying to keep Artorias from starting a yap fest where she wouldn’t stop talking, the herd had been traveling for a while in search of water but there was no luck to be found for the large herbivores. 

“Well I heard the Elders talk about crossing the small ocean crossing to go get the water on the other side of the valley” Artorias said, holding her head  high looking to see what Ouranos would think about it, as she swayed into him playfully. The elders of the herd never crossed the ocean water; it was way too dangerous, which sent shudders down Ouranos’s feathers making him puff out slightly. After a while of walking the loud thundering call from the lead of the herd echoed down to the back, Artorias was right after all they were crossing and there was no turning back now that the lead's mind was made up.

Ouranos held his head low as he walked. The thought of deep water scared him not to mind the things living in the ocean even if it was a small crossing, something could attack or eat him and it wasn’t safe for a shuno who considered himself a bad swimmer.

As the herd approached the waters edge with many wary looks around his herd mates, the lead to the plunge heading into the water keeping her head above the water before calling to her herd.

“Come on Ouranos , it can’t be that bad if the led is going in you should trust her she's wise” Artrios said looking at him before stepping into the water and following the rest of the herd members that filed in, afraid to be left behind Ouranos gulped and shuffled into the water feeling the cold grip it had on him.

The sound of splashing and thrashing zinged across the water alerting anything that was nearby of the herds movement and that included medium sized hammerhead sharks that patrolled the crossings in search for food and a crossing herd was considered prey just like everything else. Dark figures soon appearing as they coasted to Ouranos’s herd the large herbivores unaware of what lurked in the water below.

Ouranos looked around frantically trying to stick close to Artorias who didn’t seem to be bothered by having to be in the water, the dark figures looming below Ouranos with one swimming close to give a curious nip at his feet causing the large herbivore to freak out.

“Something touched me, what was that, there is something in the water, Artorias” Ouranos said stopping in the water trying to find what gave him a nip and that's when he stopped the dark looming hammerhead figures below the herd as they swam.

“Sha..rk sha..rk” Ouranos shuddered as his eyes widened as his feathers that weren’t wet poofed up in fear, he needed to get out of the water now as the hammerhead turned back around to come in for a more meaningful bite. The large male Shuno snapping out of it when Artrios slapped in the head with her neck

“Get moving we are falling behind and you were right there are hammerhead sharks!” Artrios said to him as she started to swim faster trying to catch up to the herd and using her tail to protect their backside, Ouranos had snapped out of it as he began to swim as fast as he could getting nipped once was okay but getting a real bite was not on his list to do today.

The two finally making it to the other side where the herd was, Ouranos quickly stumbling up the beach as he looked back to see Artrios behind him with her laughing as she watched a hammerhead that beached itself struggle back into the water.

“Well would you look at that Ouranos we made it , and You didn’t get bit a second time” she said laughing as she nudged him playfully.

“Get up we gotta catch up, you big scaredy shuno” She said before walking ahead, Ouranos taking one more look back at the crossing after catching his breath. That would be the last time he wanted to run into hammerheads and that was for sure.
