Fang & Lucent Lore

Fang & Lucent Shared Backstory:

One of the many experimental groups of Morpheus Labs was a small division of researchers working with utahraptors. They wanted to create the “perfect” breed; one who did not need food nor water, who lived long and could survive almost anywhere. They almost succeeded.

Batch 54 was the latest batch of raptors under this division and consisted of 5 specimens. High aggression, high pain tolerance, hyper intelligence, some even believed to be able to read. They were beyond biology, but still not enough for the researchers.

As fate would have it though, batch 54 was the last that would ever be produced from the labs.

Lucent and Fang, while not biologically related, lived as brothers along with their other batch-mates, the five of them a small family. While they were all made with the same specific parameters in mind, each was different in strengths and personalities.
Lucent fell into a protective role. He deeply cared for his family, and the life they shared.
Fang was youthful and excitable, seen as the youngest even though they were all the same age.
The humans took good care of them, and they took pride in appeasing them. The group knew no other life, but found happiness in the one they had. For a time, things were good.

When calamity struck, the humans fled the labs and locked down everything that remained inside. Batch 54 was left to die. Extended survival capabilities turned into a curse as one by one members of the group would die, forcing the rest to feed off of them. Each passing was more difficult than the next, and the grief of it broke something in Lucent’s mind.
He wasn’t just consuming his family to survive, he was preserving them, eating their failed flesh and embodying their souls, so that they might live again one day.

For Fang, the experience of it broke him too. Family members didn’t just wait to die, but were elected to be killed, and one by one Fang murdered his own family. Fang and Lucent survived out of sheer luck. Fang did not notice the change in his brother, too consumed with his own grief and survivor's guilt, and by the time a power surge knocked out the Lab’s systems (The Revival Event) only Fang and Lucent remained.

After escaping the labs the two roamed Isla Kela. Memories of their survival prevented Fang from killing prey animals so Lucent took over hunting and caring for the duo. Fang was comforted by the familiarity of Lucent’s protective “older brother” nature, how it seemed to have survived their ordeal. However, in Lucent’s mind, it was more than just protecting Fang, but their entire family. The two of them each contained half of their families souls and he would need Fang in order to bring them back.

Things came to a head when the pair found another raptor pack. It wasn’t the first time they’d encountered other raptors, but usually they kept their distance. In the early days after their escape they were too weak to risk getting close and that paranoia remained.
This time however, Lucent wanted to approach. He confided in Fang about their family’s souls and how he had a plan for how to bring them back. He needed fresh bodies.

Fang naturally was horrified at this and refused. He had to go warn the other pack, but he also needed to keep an eye on his brother. Fang decided to wait until he was asleep.
Moon high in the sky, Fang took off into the night. The other pack was skeptical of Fang’s warning, and wary of his presence. This hesitation was all the time Lucent needed to catch up and begin his attack.

Being genetically modified for war, and with the advantage of surprise, Lucent alone was no match for the pack. It was a total massacre. Fang was frozen in fear. He could only watch as the pack members fell, hearing their cries as memories of his family and their ordeal flooded into his mind.

After all was said and done Lucent approached Fang. He told Fang that it was only the two of them and they had to stick together - Fang finally snapped and lashed out, striking Lucent in the face. He tried to flee but Lucent was always the stronger of the two and pinned him down - Fang thrashed in his hold forcing Lucent to grab hold of his right arm in order to hold him still. Still Fang fought back, trying to force his way away as Lucent held tight to him. It took all of Fang’s enhanced strength, but he literally ripped himself free from Lucent, arm remaining in his jaws as Fang fled into the night.

Shocked, Lucent let him go. Besides, he had to consume what bits of souls remained in Fang’s arm and assumed his brother would not get far on his own…

After separating from his brother, Fang lived out a harsh life alone in the ruins of the human city. At the mercy of the elements and other creatures, Fang learned how to survive the hard way. His difficulty in hunting oftentimes forced him to rely on others - either thru direct help or the scraps he learned to scavenge.

He craves companionship due to all the long years he spent surviving alone. But he rarely sticks around long enough to let others get close, fearful that Lucent will come across and kill them. He’s hyper aware of his own physical strength and goes to lengths to minimize it as best as he can - either by acting silly and non threatening, or by maintaining a consistent friendliness to keep others at ease.

His collar is something he found in the early days of his life alone - he wears it as a small piece of identity that is of his own choosing, sitting in contrast to the scars that litter his body from others

After losing Fang, Lucent gradually made his way back to the labs where he was born. Alone with no one to ground him, his madness eventually consumed him.

The reincarnation of his family is his obsession. Able to read human language, he spends a lot of time delving through the ruins of the labs in search of knowledge. When he ventures out, it's either to hunt for food, or fodder for his “experiments”. Searching for the perfect vessels for his family, and for Fang who he believes holds the missing half of their familie’s souls.

Lucent is made of extremes. Hyper aggressive, highly intelligent, and obsessive. He does not let anyone or anything stand in his way
