Zhetan | Toffee

837 Words

Despite the cool night the day was almost unbearably hot. The air was thick with moisture that seemed to almost stick to everything around it. It could be felt in the atmosphere. It pressed against everything, trying to shove everything out of the way. The air seemed to almost linger on the tan coloured Utahraptor’s shoulders as the sun helped it warm up. She could feel the moisture climb onto her. She could feel how it tried to invade her thick feathery exterior. She wanted to fluff up her feathers to let the air flow between them and cool herself down. But the humid air would most likely take the opportunity and invade her feather dress with more water and make it even more sticky. Which of course would mean that she would have to prune more later on to make sure her feathers kept their sheen tomorrow. It was a hard choice. Comfort or work. Despite this the raptor, at first glance, seemed completely unbothered by this weather. A soft and content smile on her face as the amber eyes scanned the sandy beach looking for all kinds of pretty things, shells, shiny stones or other interesting things, anything that could catch her eyes really. At times her golden gaze instead wandered over to her partner who did the same just a few leaps away, and her favourite part was the few times she caught her girlfriends green eyes gazing back at her. She could get lost in those eyes. Everytime it felt as if time itself slowed down. How long had they been in the air? Hard to tell. Could have been hours. The both of them seemed unable to keep from looking at each other every now and then. It was like a game. To see if they could catch each other. If they thought the same thing at the same time and just caught each other in the same thought. A game she would never get tired of playing.
She let her gaze linger just a few more moments before looking down at her “treasures” in her hands. It was mostly just scalloped shells and some pieces of frosted looking, round sea glass in beautiful colours. From green to blue. Those were her favourites. The fun coloured ones. She could find the more boring, colour wise, glass pieces amazing as well. There was a transparent one that seemed to hold something almost iridescent inside of it. It caught the light from the sun in a peculiar way and even managed to make a small, feeble rainbow onto the sand if she held it close enough to it. It was spectacular. The way the light could contort inside of it. How the light she couldn’t see could turn into amazing colours on the other side of a piece of transparent glass.

“Found anything new?” She kept a soft voice as she spoke. It was after all towards Fudge she spoke. She turned her eyes from the transparent piece of glass towards her girlfriend. The brown utahraptor met her eyes and she could feel the feathers on her cheeks lift on her face in a blushing sort of way. They had a silly little contest going on. The winner would be the one that found the prettiest pieces to show to their other girlfriend Toast, a brown,  beautiful cryo unlike the both utahraptors. Toast was out on her own little excursion. Sometimes they needed to spend time apart after all. No matter how much they enjoy each other's company.

Toffee had high hopes for her little iridescent piece of translucent glass and as she spoke she was weighing from one foot to the other to try and mitigate the scorching heat of the sand underneath her. The sun had done a fantastic job on heating it up. But it wasn’t really to her liking. She preferred a temperature she could actually stand on. It could be worse, it could’ve been freezing.
From time to time they would walk into the slow moving water to cool down their feet from the burning sand. If they weren’t careful they could get blisters. That’s one of the dangers with a hot beach day after all. But her wiggles made it hard to keep her pretty things secure in her arms. She had to combine the technique with balancing the things in her arms. Holding them close to her chest.
There were pros and cons with everything on the beach. It was warm, but too much was dangerous. Then the salty water felt nice against the hot sand but there was no way to get past the sand in a stable manner without first passing through the hot sand again which would then stick to every inch of her feet. Into every crevice and wrinkle on her toes. Not to mention the feathers. The salty water would easily stick to any feathers it would come in contact with. She could bet it would look funny from an outside perspective.

AberrantKapro | Fudge

445 Words

Fudge, the sand coloured utah, happily bounced and trotted along the coast with her two loving girlfriends. Toast, who suffered the most out of them from the heat, was way behind, taking her time, while Toffee and Fudge rummaged for fun trinkets along the shore. Fudge was probably the most resilient of them all, while she definitely felt the heat and humidity force its way into her lungs, she didn't suffer too much from the heat itself. She still made sure to follow suit whenever Toffee wanted to dip her little toes though, she couldn't let her have all the fun!

Fudge did her very best to search for the most sparkly and shimmery shells she could get her grabby claws on, and she promptly proceeded to pick them up as best as she could. Looking over at Toffee, she could see that she, too, had her arms full of delightful treasures and trinkets. Their eyes locked into each other briefly and Fudge couldn't help but feel her heart skip a beat, the amount of love she felt for this utah was truly immeasurable.

She started chirping and skipping happily before looking back briefly to see their cryo girlfriend strutting out on the pier. While Fudge was for sure curious about what had caught Toast’s attention, she was way too hooked on gathering shells to decorate their cozy home cave with, so Fudge once more turned her eyes forward and down into the sand to scout for more shiny things to bring home.

The sandy coloured utah was struggling to carry all the fun things she had found, so she started to take some rather odd measurements to be able to gather more things. She started shoving what she could into her toothy mouth, doing her best not to scratch anything too badly, and eventually she struggled to even close her jaws.

“Found anything new?” she heard Toffee asked before they once again made eye contact.

Fudge attempted to answer, but only half choked mumbles left her shell filled mouth at this point. I sure did! was what she wanted to reply, but she doubted anyone at all could ever translate her greedy mumbles. She wanted all the shells, all the shiny stuff, all the perfectly smooth rocks. They would look perfect in their cave, she just knew it.

After some more rummaging and searching, Fudge decided that enough would have to be enough. She was physically unable to carry anymore shells, despite so badly wanting to, so in a weird and messy attempt to get Toffee’s attention, she made the most weird and muffled noise she had probably ever made. It seemed surprisingly effective.
