Brick | Zhetan

Words: 428

The sun had recently started peeking up behind the horizon, and the air had a chilly bite to it. The rocky cliffs they were ascending gave little respite from the wind, motivating them to get up early to try to scale them as fast as they could. Truth be told, had the shopkeep not asked this task of finding his “treasures” of them Brick would never have chosen this route back inland. But the Oviraptor had insisted that the cliffs would hold more kinds of valuables, so here they were. The green eyes surveyed the narrow path ahead, looking for any loose rocks that could spell disaster if they weren’t careful. Camille had been ordered to stay on one of their backs across this narrow part, much to her dismay. It had taken more than a few minutes of convincing, as well as some promises of letting her keep some of her own treasures she found, as long as they couldn’t be conceived to be dangerous. Moving his gaze back to his partners behind him, he had volunteered to be in the lead and checking the terrain, he nodded his head before speaking.
Nothing immediately dangerous, some rough spot here or there to keep your eyes on, but other than that just follow me” he hated how much like an order it sounded when he spoke like that, but he had a hard time controlling the tone of his voice, and they always assured him that they knew he did it out of love and care. He couldn’t help but worry though, a small voice he mostly tried to ignore telling him they would be annoyed. With a small smile he turned back and carefully walked forward. This narrow path would lead to a larger shelf in the rocky cliffside that Fell had sworn he saw something glisten, which was their best lead on these “treasures” on the cliffs they had so far. Brick hopes it would be something at least, even if he was unsure what they really got out of this deal with the shopkeep, he had been vague. Mostly it was Camille and her pleading for the “adventure” that had convinced him to help anyway, but here on the cliffs, with narrow paths and loose rocks that could spell doom, he was maybe second guessing that decision just a little bit. Okay maybe more than a little. But he tried to not show this to his family, be strong and at least lead the way if he could. Better him falling than any of them.

Kassadin & Camille | AberrantKapro

Kassadin followed close behind Brick as he took the lead along the narrow, cliffy path. He occasionally looked back at Cant and Fell as they waked behind and he couldn’t help but smile thinking of this little family trip as a fun way to bond with their little Camille, who was currently sulking as she had to ride Kassadin’s back as to not get too excited and run off, risking getting hurt. Kassadin didn’t have much issue with the chilly temperature that was currentöy surrounding the group, seeing as he was fully feathered with a majestic feathered crest. Extra insulation against the cold. Camille wasn’t too bothered either, though she did have to puff up a bit extra now that she was sitting still. She looked almost double as big from her usual size as she ruffled up her dark cream coloured feathers, looking around for fun things they could bring back to the shopkeeper. Her brown eyes eventually locked onto something interesting, an extra sparkly rock, and she started chirping before excitedly stepping on Kassadin's back and pointing as best as she could with her feathered hand.

“Look! Sparkles!” she happily exclaimed and looked down at Kassadin first, but then to Brick and back at the other two as if to ask them all if she could go get it for them, seeing as it was in a tricky spot for the styras to reach.

Kassadin looked over to where she was pointing and sighed a bit. Vehicle his inner hoard gremlin for sure wanted the rock, he was unsure if it was of any value to the shopkeeper. He smiled gently as he looked up at their little utah daughter to respond.

“I don’t know Camille, it seems a bit risky I think.” he said as calmly as he could, hoping she wouldn’t get too upset with him saying no.

Camille sat back down, pouting a bit, but she knew her fathers all meant well when they said something was a bad idea so she felt no need to argue. She was just a little bit upset that she was not allowed to free roam the cliffs, seeing as there were so many pretty rocks and perhaps other fun things to find.

Fell had stopped for a moment just to take in the sunrise. He could stare for as long as it took for the sun to rise above the mountain range. There was something about the way that you could almost see the sun slowly crawl over the mountains. As if it was dragging itself over it with all its might, slowly and steadily. And when it hit that sweet spot the entire sky seemed to light up in a glorious orange color before it got all the way over the mountain. You could replicate that with quite literally any horizon as long as you got the timing right but there was something about just cliffs and mountains like these. The way the rocky mountains just threw shade over the ground beneath them made it so much more impressive.

Cant was standing still and resting a bit as Fell had stopped. He also found the sunrise beautiful but he preferred the sunset because then the sun had had all day to warm up the land and they could enjoy the brisk breeze of a warm evening. Now they were walking across dangerous cliffs. The two styras hadn’t done much of the cliff scaling yet. It was all ahead of them. The others had already managed to get a bit ahead of them. Fell took his gaze at the mountain range. They could see Kassadin, Brick and Camille already climbing the cliffs, two of them, the styras, were quite a bit slower than the Utahraptor.

“We should catch up.” Fell sighed as he looked at the cliffs but before Cant could respond he had perked up and taken a couple of steps forward. “Did you see that?” He asked, his voice was eager.

“The sunrise? Of course I did.” Cant said as he walked forward.

“No, no. I saw something on the rocky cliffs over there.” He pointed with his head towards the cliffs. It was a bit ahead and up from where the others were heading. Cant couldn’t miss how excited Fell suddenly seemed as he began hurrying to get ahead of the others. Cant sighed. And here he thought they would have a slow and steady climb. Now he would have to actually keep up a tempo to not get too lost.

Fell was the first of the two to get back to the group and when Cant caught up to them he was already telling the other about what he thought he saw.

“I can’t really tell what it was.” Fell said as he was catching his own breath. “But something about it just seems as if was out of place. It called to me. Does any of this make any sense?” Camille had already lost interest. She heard treasure and tried to listen but by the end she was picking up trinkets between the rocky cliffs instead. The other Styras gave him looks as if they didn’t a hundred percent believe him, and he understood that feeling, but in the end they all agreed that it was the best option. So they began climbing up higher in hopes of finding whatever it was that Fell had managed to see.

Cant, again, was the slowest of the bunch but he too made sure to make his way up the cliffs and help.
