Helpful || Humble || Quiet || Shy || Sweet
Interactions
She prefers that conversation not turn to her. She stays away from a crowd if she can, and will occupy herself with tasks if she can’t.
Her responses tend to be short and quietly spoken, if she is stuck in a conversation.
She prefers to avoid confrontation, and will fly away at the first sight of trouble if she’s on the mainland.
History
Due to her unusually bright, pale colouration, she was not expected to live long. Her birth parents abandoned her.
But she wouldn’t be alone for long. Matriarch discovered her nest, and took her back to the Steelwater flock. She survived - and even flourished, learning to work around the challenge that the sun presented. She was still aware of how much she stood out, though, and grew to seek only her own company, or the more relaxed and composed dispositions of adults and elders. She spent more time away from her own age group, further isolating herself.
Matriarch had other jobs for her, to help her “stretch her wings.” Her massive wingspan was useful to search for souls lost at sea, and carry materials back to the ship. When she was on the ship, she spent time helping to tend to the young, old, sick, and wounded.
She still preferred to avoid catching too much attention, but that didn’t stop another peculiar tropeo from seeking her out. Gianna had her own “oddity” - large, heavy scales that grew all over her body, making her bulky and a poor flier. She visited Polaris occasionally for pastes that would alleviate the itching that came from the growing keratin plates, and visited more to keep her company and chat. Gianna’s visits gave Polaris a little more confidence, and she was slowly able to see her pale colouration as less of a novelty or a hindrance and more just… part of herself.
Fun Facts:
- Pale colouration makes her easy to see at night, which helps her guide dinosaurs from the sea to the shore or to the Steelwater ship
- Most active at dawn, dusk, and night when there is less sunlight to affect her vision or skin
- Can glide for hours on air currents over the ocean with very little energy expenditure
