"Lava Tunnels"
A series of long, interwoven tunnels that run just beneath the surface of the northern and central parts of Isla Pera. They work marvelously as shelter - either temporary or as a permanent residence - and are truly fascinating to explore. The long-cooled tunnels of the ancient volcano are lined with a rainbow of colour in some areas. Other tunnels are studded from floor to ceiling with millions of tiny crystals that glimmer in any light that made its way into the tunnel. Ceiling collapses are not uncommon, providing useful skylights and to help spelunkers see into the otherwise inky depths. Not all of these tunnels are quite as inactive as they seem, however. Nearest the active volcano on Isla Pela, some of these tunnels are deceptively calm, until you round a corner and lava is oozing towards you from the active volcano. The ground, as well, might crumble away to reveal more tunnels - a hazardous fall, and deadly if the tunnel below is still live.
