Ra was not the parent that Emerald wanted, but the one he needed. The first time he had tried to eat a frog, Ra had sternly told him off, warning him that the slimy amphibians were often toxic, and he would either not be alive to tell the tale, or could smell colours for a while. But it wasn't worth the risk that it would be the former. So the next time he encountered a frog, he just trotted on by it, proud of himself for remembering his lessons
