It was hard to uproot himself from the family he'd made for himself, to leave behind his kids like that and willingly plant himself behind the same confining walls he was born to... He knew returning to the bask and risking his father, or god forbid Linette, learning about the relationship he'd built with Dahlia... It could-- would end badly for everyone involved. Mal wasn't sure what he'd find walking into those walls, maybe some part of him didn't truly want to know with the visions his imagination conjured alone, but after what Polaris had told him regarding the tanker exploding... He couldn't just leave them to suffer. He was home, and he wouldn't be leaving for some time. At least his old friend Fade and his daughter Austa were there to greet him with warm smiles, and open hearts.
