As they grew older, Hyperion began to become more and more brash - even going as far as to test their mother's last nerve. She was never interested in stepping in to break up their childish fights, but when Hyperion turned on her instead, she decided to show him who was the muscle around here. Fade would never forget it. Her show of strength wasn't to protect him from his brother as he had hoped when he was younger, it was to throw Hyperion out of their lives. Hyperion would retreat, defeated, into the sea. Fade would wonder if he, being smaller and weaker than his brother, would be next. When would she decide to turn on him, too?
