The characters in this story are exploring the dry savanna, and since they are not at a point in their character development where they are able to explore together, rigor is pursuing Fawnstep, trying to hunt him. Fawnstep is searching for a safe place to hide away from Rigormortis, and though he hasn't come to this place specifically to see what's up, he is interacting with the environment regardless.
