EXP & Leveling Guide

EXP Eligibility

For a drawing of your dinosaur to count towards EXP it must fit these criteria:
  • Must be recognizable as your dinosaur and match the import
-- Markings can be slightly different as a young dinosaur grows into them
-- Feathers can slightly be altered for young dinosaurs but they shouldn't look like a different variant
  • Artworks not fitting the standards for quest submission can still be submitted for EXP
-- Includes drawings without backgrounds, drawn in non-PA universes, etc.
  • Must be your own dinosaur; you cannot claim EXP for others' characters
Traced and heavily referenced artwork will not be eligible for EXP

Approving EXP

EXP is counted and approved through EXP Check-Ins or when an activity submission is approved
  • Focus characters who complete activities automatically have their EXP awarded to them when the quest is approved.
-- If the EXP has already been counted before the quest is submitted, make a note of this in the submission description.
-- Breedings do not receive automatic EXP on approval as they do not have a reward system and must complete an EXP Check-In.
  • For all other non-focus dinosaurs who feature in quests, and for any dinosaur with non-quest art, you must make an EXP Check-In submission with a link to the piece being counted.
  • Any errors or discrepancies in EXP previously counted, from any source, should be submitted to EXP Corrections with a link to the error in order to have the EXP corrected.

EXP Submission Guides

Step-by-step guides on how to do EXP submissions!
EXP can be a little confusing, especially for characters that have a lot of art attached to them, which is why its important to get everything logged and accounted for! As always, feel free to reach out for help through our Discord server or site forums!

This guide is about how to complete EXP Check-Ins for pieces that have NEVER been counted before. If your dinosaur already has some EXP and you aren't sure which images are counted or not, or has been granted incorrrect EXP, please go to the other section, EXP Corrections!

From the main navigation bar at the top of the page, you can either go through User > New Submission or Activities > New EXP Check-In to start an EXP Check-In! You should end up at a page that looks like the below example, which you can click for a full-size view. Then, just follow the steps found below!

exp-check-in.webp

1 - Make sure the EXP Check-In prompt is selected
If you've done this from the Activities tab, it should be automatically filled in! From the User tab, you'll need to manually select this prompt.
2 - Add a link to the media being counted

Insert a link to the individual piece of media that you would like counted! This link must be part of some form of public gallery. The creator and any collaborators must be credited; either through the gallery link itself or an additional link to their gallery. Direct links to works not in a gallery such as Sta.sh or Google Docs will not be accepted.

Only link one image or literature per submission, so that each can be counted individually. If its a multi-paneled image, such as a comic or quest set that has multiple pictures of the same character, or multi-chapter literature; then you can submit that entire piece to be counted as one check!

3 - Attempt an EXP breakdown

Using the 'Calculating EXP' section at the bottom of the page, add up all the EXP that applies to your submitted piece and show us how you've added it up! It doesn't have to be correct; moderators will note any changes they make to your count when they approve it. But attempting a breakdown gives us an idea of what you think something should count as and what bonuses you expect to receive.

If the media was uploaded before or during October 2022, you will need to include additional information to prove it has not been counted before!

  • If the deviantArt import is Level 1, then that's all the proof you'll need since Level 1 dinosaurs did not receive any EXP when they were uploaded to Lorekeeper!
  • If your dinosaur is not Level 1, then you should include a link to their most recent deviantArt EXP check-in comment and their old EXP tracker.

4 & 5 - Add all characters featured in the piece

Link all imports that are necessary for counting. Clicking the 'Add Character' button (4) adds one input field for one character. The character receiving the EXP should be set as the focus (5). There should only be 1 focus character unless there are multiple characters receiving the exact same amount of EXP!

If there are other characters in the piece that do not receive the same EXP, or any that are owned by other member's or the group, you should still link them as non-focus characters. This is so moderators can check which bonuses to apply and that each dinosaur matches their import. For characters that receive different EXP amounts, they will need their own separate submission to get their EXP.

This guide is about how to complete an EXP Correction. These corrections are meant as a catch-all to fix any EXP discrepancies - no new counts are added through corrections! If your character's deviantArt import is higher than Level 1, they will need a correction since they were only given enough EXP to reach their level, not an accurate amount. For new counts, please see the EXP Check-In section instead.

Corrections are for:
  • Differences between EXP earned on deviantArt and what was granted upon site upload
  • A counting error on site EXP such as a quest submission where the EXP was incorrect
From the main navigation bar at the top of the page, you go through User > New Submission to start an EXP Correction! Then depending on what the correction is for; you would fill the form out in one of two ways:
Correcting a counting error
This is if there was missing or miscounted EXP on a lorekeeper submission; not for recounts on already approved deviantArt EXP.
  • Link the incorrect submission as the submission URL
  • Explain how the count is incorrect, for example:
-- Something was missed in the original count
-- You want to contend how something was counted
-- The piece has been counted twice by accident
  • Link your import in the submission as the focus character
-- Include any relevant extra dinosaurs as non-focus characters

Correcting an EXP difference from a deviantArt transfer
This section only applies to imports from deviantArt who have been uploaded to the site; they may be missing EXP from their upload to the site.

As you can see in these examples, Strawberry was only granted 270 EXP when she was uploaded, even though she was Level 10 on deviantArt, and had a total of 280 EXP accounted for. This is because, when a moderator uploads an import, they only have the import page to work with; they do not have access to the deviantArt EXP Check-In comments because these were tracked by users, not staff. Therefore, the dinosaur is given just enough EXP on the site to match their Level from their deviantArt import, with no additional EXP progress into that level.

To correct this, create a new EXP Correction submission and do the following:
  • Link the last deviantArt EXP Check-In comment as the submission URL
-- The link can be obtained from the comment's timestamp next to the username
  • Link the last deviantArt EXP Check-In comment, tracker, and deviantArt import in the comments
-- You can also include the expected missing EXP if you wish
  • Link your import in the submission as the focus character

With this information, your submission form should look something like this example. For a more detailed step-by-step on how to fill this form out, you can refer to the EXP Check-In guide. Simply replace the steps about the submission URL and the comments box with the above bullet points.

In the case of trackers with broken images; we may request additional proof; such as additional deviantArt comments and copies of the images with their breakdowns, to verify which images have been counted. We also recommend this correction process is completed before using the dinosaur as the focus import for quests or submitting new EXP Check-Ins on site to avoid any extra confusion!

Each dinosaur that has EXP from deviantArt will need their own separate EXP Correction submission. Remember that no new EXP can be added during EXP Corrections; anything uncounted in old trackers provided will not be added during this process and must go through a separate EXP Check-In.

Leveling

Each level requires 30 EXP
All dinosaurs start at Level 1 with 0 EXP. A Level 4 dinosaur would have a total of 90 EXP. The maximum is Level 100.
Levels do not equate to how old your dinosaur is. Instead, Levels are used as a way to earn stat points and breeding slots:
  • Each time your dinosaur levels up, it will gain 1 stat point!
  • For every 10 levels your dinosaur gains, it will receive +1 breeding slot!
-- Not automatic yet, requires making a claim with the dinosaur to have it added by a moderator

Here's where to find all EXP, level and stat related pages on your dinosaur's page! The logs are also accessible from the level and stat pages. It can be clicked for a full-size view.

The "Level Area" shows how much EXP a dinosaur has and if they have enough to level up, you will be able to do that there as well!

Stat points are still a WIP but you can see them on your dinosaur's page from the "Stats Area". We recommend not assigning stats until their rework is complete. All species also have differing base stats which are included in this area.

Calculating EXP

Different medias have different EXP breakdowns! These can be found in the buttons below. To calculate EXP, follow this method:

  • Total up the 'base' EXP from the correct category; 2D, 3D, or literature
-- If it's an animated artwork, also add the animation EXP
  • If you are the creator of the piece, apply all bonuses that apply
-- You can skip this step if you are not the creator
  • Apply modifiers if any of those are relevant for the piece you're counting EXP for

In addition, EXP has several references to 75% being the minimum visibility needed for dinosaurs in artwork to be counted as a fullbody. This is roughly equivalent to 5 sections of a character being visible.

  • Tail tips, hands, feet, or small parts of the body being obscured are fine as long as the majority of the section is visible.
  • Characters covered by their own body, such as when drawn from a front perspective, does not reduce what is counted as visible.
  • Characters covered by other characters or background elements does reduce what is counted towards their visibility.

2D artwork is considered any artwork that has been created traditionally or digitally, in any style. Pixel art is counted the same as other 2D artworks.
Busts and headshots - less than 75% of the dinosaur
  • Monochrome/Black and White/Limited Palette: +0.5 EXP
  • Colored: +1 EXP
  • Shaded: +2 EXP
  • Background: +3 EXP
Fullbodies - more than 75% of the dinosaur
  • Monochrome/Black and White/Limited Palette: +2 EXP
  • Colored: +3 EXP
  • Shaded: +3 EXP
  • Background: +5 EXP

3D artwork is considered any artwork that has been created in a 3D modelling program, such as Blender, or hand-made crafts. 3D art uses the same standard EXP totals as 2D artwork, listed below for convenience, but can also receive extra EXP for certain assets.
  • +10 EXP on the first use of a character model
-- Re-using this model for more submissions will not yield extra EXP after the first time
  • +10 EXP for backgrounds/environments with no premade assets
-- If you entirely create a background and build your own environment models then you may claim extra EXP

Busts and headshots - less than 75% of the dinosaur
  • Monochrome/Black and White/Limited Palette: +0.5 EXP
  • Colored: +1 EXP
  • Shaded: +2 EXP
  • Background: +3 EXP
Fullbodies - more than 75% of the dinosaur
  • Monochrome/Black and White/Limited Palette: +2 EXP
  • Colored: +3 EXP
  • Shaded: +3 EXP
  • Background: +5 EXP

Animation EXP is combined with the EXP from 2D or 3D artworks. For each animated scene, total up the EXP from the area that matches your artwork and then add the animation EXP from below.
  • +4 EXP for every 5 seconds of unique simple/extremely short animation with 1-2 unique frames
    -- Examples: Blinking, bouncing, etc.
  • +8 EXP for every 5 seconds of unique simple/short animation action with a small number of unique frames
-- Examples: Snorting, breathing, licking, etc.
  • +25 EXP for every 5 seconds of unique complex/long animation action
-- Examples: Headbutting, running, walking, attacking, etc.
If your character is doing multiple actions, you may claim multiple sets of animation EXP for each 5 seconds.

This applies to all kinds of literature such as stories and roleplays. Literature word count is based on length; each 100 words gives 1 EXP; anything shorter than 100 words does not receive EXP. An easy method to calculate longer pieces that aren't on this quick cheat sheet is to take your word count, divide it by 100 then round down.
100 words = 1 EXP
  • 0-99: 0 EXP
  • 100-199: 1 EXP
  • 200-299 words: 2 EXP
  • 300-399 words: 3 EXP
  • 400-499 words: 4 EXP
  • 500-599 words: 5 EXP
  • 600-699 words: 6 EXP
  • 700-799 words: 7 EXP
  • 800-899 words: 8 EXP
  • 900-999 words: 9 EXP
  • 1,000-1,099 words: 10 EXP
  • 1,100-1,199 words: 11 EXP
  • 1,200-1,299 words: 12 EXP
  • 1,300-1,399 words: 13 EXP
  • 1,400-1,499 words: 14 EXP
  • 1,500-1,599 words: 15 EXP
  • And so on...

These are multipliers that are applied to all medias if they meet the conditions. To apply modifiers, first total up all EXP as normal, including bonuses, then multiply by the modifier(s) that apply. Modifiers can stack; for example a simplistic re-used base would be x0.25.
Simplistic [x0.5]

Artworks and literatures that are much more simplistic than the creator's typical style will be counted at half the EXP. If you have a simplistic art style but that is consistently your normal style, the simplistic modifier will usually not apply to you.

Bases and Re-used Assets [x0.5]

Re-used assets will be counted at half EXP. This includes tracing over portions of your previous drawings with only minimal edits or changes to pose or re-using past poses entirely. These pieces are not eligible to be used in any quests, breedings, events, seasonals, ect. This does not apply to 3D artwork; more information can be found under that section.

Bonuses can be applied to all pieces that you created or collaborated on yourself, regardless of media! If you are not the creator or a collaborator then you do not receive any bonuses. These bonuses only apply to your own dinosaurs in the piece; they do not apply to other non-collaborating member's dinosaurs featured in your piece.

Literature submissions must be at least 600 words long to qualify for EXP bonuses. Additionally, literature does not receive bust bonuses from extra dinosaurs, only fullbodies; but the extra dinosaurs must be involved in the literature for more than a brief interaction or name-drop.
