Quest Guide

Quests are one of the main activities for Primeval Age! They're a way to gain items, currency, experience and even dinosaur eggs! Some quests may have certain requirements so be sure to check those before participating. Different types of quests also drop different types and amounts of loot. All quests are submitted and rolled through the Lorekeeper site!

Setting

While you don't have to follow the canon lore and information of the ARPG for your personal stories of your dinosaur, you MUST follow the lore and canon of the ARPG for all official activities like quests, prompts and events!

This includes:

  • No extinct species or fantasy creatures that do not exist, including fantasy ARPG species
  • No dinosaur species that do not exist in the ARPG
-- A full list can be found here; as well as the only Oviraptor in the game, the Shopkeeper
-- Fossils of other dinosaur species can included but not unfossilised remains
  • No living humans, but you can include human skeletons, man-made items and buildings
  • However, you may include any modern day species that you would like!
  • You can include characters from outside the ARPG in submissions as background NPCs as long as they fit all above rules
-- These characters do not provide any rewards or EXP bonuses
-- Some prompts require interactions with another dinosaur; they must be an approved Primeval Age import

Submission Guidelines

Quest submissions must include the following form in the description

This must be added to the submission form on-site when submitting to the quest queue, in the description area. It does not need to be added to the description of gallery uploads. Submissions that do not include this form will be sent back, even if the rest of the submission is acceptable. Replace anything in brackets like [this] with relevant information.

Context: [Required for leases and aging quests; otherwise optional but recommended]
Participating Users: [Required]
EXP Breakdown: [Required, see our EXP Guide]

  • Context is recommended in case it's not quite clear how your dinosaur's actions are fulfilling the prompt. Having a description of what the dinosaur is doing or how they feel about something happening in the submission form means moderators probably won't have to send back a submission for added context if it's deemed unclear. Context is required for the following:
-- If the submission is for an aging quest, include the depicted age stages of each dinosaur being grown here.
-- If you are leasing a dinosaur, include proof you have permission to lease from the dinosaur's owner.
  • Participating Users is a list of users the submission is being used as a loot roll for. Owners of extra non-focus characters who are not receiving rewards do not need to be listed. This is to ensure the submission is rolled for no more than three characters and that all users have permission to use the submission as a roll.
  • EXP Breakdown is the EXP you expect to receive from that submission and a breakdown of how you got to that total, for each focus dinosaur that is owned by you. It does not need to be correct as moderators will correct this count if needed; but gives staff a baseline of what you think something should count as and what bonuses to look out for. The breakdown format is not important as long as it is clear, the examples below all use one format for simplicity.
Here are some examples of the form being filled out in various situations:

For this example, this will be for the Kill or be Killed prompt where only one user is receiving rewards, using an art submission they created themselves. They could use anywhere from one to three focus characters, but for the EXP example we will say it's three Tapejaras. This submission features two extra non-focus Cryolophosaurus, where we will say both are fullbodies but owned by another user!

Context: My flock of Tapejaras tried to eat a hatchling Cryolophosaurus but turns out their parent was around to save them!
Participating Users: Just me!
EXP Count:
Fullbody - Coloured +3 / Shaded +3 / Background +5 / Quest +1 / Personal +3 / Other Member's Dinosaurs +2
- Total: +17 each

For this example, this will be for a Seasonal prompt, we will say the prompt is about sharks. where User A and User B have collaborated on an art piece. User A is rolling for one character who has the 50% visibility required for a seasonal, recieving bust EXP. However, User B is rolling for two focus characters, one is 50% visible but their second dinosaur is above 75% which will receive fullbody EXP. Both of User B's dinosaurs must go in the same submission.

The site can not award different amounts of EXP in one submission. All dinosaurs will receive the lowest EXP count, then a moderator will immediately grant the extra EXP to the other dinosaur(s) through their page. In this example, both of User B's dinosaurs will receive 7.5 EXP when the quest is approved, then Dinosaur A will be granted the extra 6 EXP manually. If this is forgotten, please submit an EXP Correction with a link to the dinosaur and the original submission as proof.

User A's Form:
Context: My dinosaur went to the beach to see the sharks, but got scared when a shark touched their leg. Now they're hurrying to dry land!
Participating Users: Me and User B
EXP Count:
Bust - Coloured +1 / Shaded +2 / Background +3 / Collaboration +1 / Personal +1 / Other Member's Dinosaur +1.5
- Total: +9.5 to my dinosaur

User B's Form:
Context: My dinosaurs are swimming with sharks! They're not afraid of them at all.
Participating Users: Me and User A
EXP Count:
For Dinosaur A:
Fullbody - Coloured +3 / Shaded +3 / Background +5 / Collaboration +1 / Personal +1 / Other Member's Dinosaur +0.5
- Total: +13.5

For Dinosaur B:
Bust - Coloured +1 / Shaded +2 / Background +3 / Personal +1 (from Dinosaur A) / Other Member's Dinosaur +0.5
- Total: +7.5

This example will be for the Crossing Paths prompt where all users are aging up one dinosaur each, all dinosaurs are fullbodies, using an art submission created by User A. Because it's an aging quest, the age of each dinosaur should be included in the context section.

User A's Form:
Context: My dinosaur is an adolescent, and has found User B's and User C's abandoned hatchlings and will adopt them!
Participating Users: Me, User B and User C
EXP Count:
Fullbody - Coloured +3 / Shaded +3 / Background +5 / Quest +1 / Personal +1 / Other Member's Dinosaurs +2
- Total: +15 to my dinosaur

User B's Form:
Context: My dinosaur is an abandoned hatchling but has been found and adopted by User A's adolescent dinosaur!
Participating Users: Me, User B and User C
EXP Count:
Fullbody - Coloured +3 / Shaded +3 / Background +5
- Total: +11 to my dinosaur

User C's Form:
Context: My hatchling dinosaur has been abandoned along with their sibling, but has been found and adopted by User A's adolescent dinosaur!
Participating Users: Me, User A and User B
EXP Count:
Fullbody - Coloured +3 / Shaded +3 / Background +5
- Total: +11 to my dinosaur

Submissions cannot have more than four panels or chapters

Submissions can contain multiple rolls, divided up into separate panels in the case of artwork, and chapters in the case of literature. These panels should still be submitted as a separate quest submission per panel, the overall image or literature piece can't be submitted once and rolled for all four in one submission, rather it enables you to use the same link multiple times if you'd like to upload fewer files or keep certain pieces together in a collection.

However, submissions cannot have more than four individual entries within one image or literature piece  - this means art sheets and stories with more than four rolls will need to be split up on separate canvases or documents when uploaded for review. Art pieces should have clear divisions between panels; while literature should have a clear start and end for each chapter.

The exceptions to this are:

  • Comics that are intended to be a single submission
  • Novel-like stories with multiple chapters where the whole story is used as a single submission

In these cases, the submission can have as many panels or chapters as you want. However, if the comic or story is meant to be used for multiple submissions by rolling different panels or chapters independently, then it must be limited to four panels or chapters.

Context is not shared across panels or chapters, each is judged against the prompt description, Quest Requirements and Quality Standards independently as if it was a stand-alone quest submission. Additionally, for literature, word count is not shared across chapters so each roll needs to meet the word count by itself, rather than just the whole piece.

For art submissions, these four panels should not be one larger background cut or split into smaller canvases. Each background should be unique; though backgrounds can be in similar settings, have similar elements, and similar framing. Panels that share a background with slight edits to it, such as differences in time of day or season across each panel, are not considered different enough from one another to count as unique backgrounds.

A maximum of three characters can roll for loot per submission

You can have up to three separate characters per submission count for the one quest roll. This means one submission will grant each character a roll. The characters do not have to be owned by the same person, so three different users can get one roll each from one image! In the case of separate panels or chapters above, each panel or chapter can still roll for three characters.

  • Each character being rolled for you should be set as the focus character in the submission
-- Set other participant's focus characters as non-focus characters in your submission
-- Set each extra character not being rolled as non-focus characters so staff can verify that they match their import
  • Each character being rolled will need to still meet the Quest Requirements
  • Each character being rolled still needs to actively engage in the prompt
-- For example, all dinosaurs should be involved in the hunt on a hunting quest
  • If the prompt is hunting or foraging then all focus characters still need to have the appropriate diet

Multi-character submissions where all characters in one image/panel or literature/chapter are owned by one user can only be submitted and rolled once. Make sure to set all focus characters in one submission; not one submission per dinosaur. Each participating character will receive their loot within one shared submission.

If multiple users are using one multi-character submission, all users must separately submit to the queue at the same time before any can be processed, to verify the submission is only being rolled for three characters maximum. If one member does not submit; it is up to the group of users participating to sort it out themselves. Each participating user will receive their loot within their own independent submission.

Extra non-focus dinosaurs can still be added to scenes to grant additional EXP to the focus characters during the quest approval, as well as earning their own EXP which can be claimed via a separate check-in.

Collaborations and roleplays can be used as entries

Collaborations are allowed for all activites in the game, unless otherwise stated. All creators are able to receive the Collaboration EXP bonus for one of their dinosaurs in the piece. Additionally, using the multi-character submission system means that all collaborators can earn rewards from one submission as long as they feature one of their dinosaurs as a focus character in the piece. You can also split the loot yourselves if there are more than three collaborators or they don't have a dinosaur of their own featured; but this is not enforced by the group and is up you! In this case, we recommend collaborating on multiple panels or chapters so everyone can submit at least once instead.

Roleplays can be considered collaborative literature submissions, as long as they are readable and otherwise meet all the Quest Requirements and Quality Standards. Each person's part does not need to be marked in the roleplay, but each person involved should be credited or sourced. For art collaborations, it is recommended to list what each part a person did so we can compare to their gallery more accurately. For example, if one person drew the background, we will compare to other backgrounds in their gallery.

There are no limits on how many quests you can submit in a certain period

However, do be cautious of injuries! All hunting, foraging, and adventuring quests have a risk of injuring you character. Injuries impact your dinosaur's ability to successfully find loot and produce offspring, and can worsen if not healed between quests. It's recommended to not submit more than one submission per dinosaur at a time so if they do get injured, they are safe from worsening their injury. Having multiple submissions in the queue also risks having some submissions being rolled at lower rates if your dinosaur does happen to get injured before all of them are rolled. A full guide on injuries can be found here!

Additionally, some quests do have a limit on how many times they can be completed; this can be per user or per dinosaur depending on the prompt.

Seasonal quests can only be completed once per dinosaur, and they can only complete one of the three seasonal prompts. After this, they will receive the seasonal award and will be unable to do any more for the season. This also applies to dinosaurs leased from other users. But you as the user can do as many seasonal prompts as often as you want as long as you use a different dinosaur who hasn't done any of the current seasonal quests.

Some event quests may have 'story' prompts, usually with guaranteed event-specific rewards, which can only be completed once per user. In some cases, story prompts may be chained together like chapters, requiring you to complete them in order. You can complete event story prompts as fast as you like.

Quality Disclaimer

Every submission must follow the current Quest Requirements and Quality Standards rules
unused old quest art that was made under different rules must adhere to the current rules if you would like to use it in a quest!

  • Any artwork or literature submitted will be compared to your gallery for a quality check! If the entry is considered to be drastically lower quality than your typical style, it may be denied; though you can still claim EXP from it. You will be permitted to edit the entry piece in order for it to pass!
  • Re-used linearts, sketches, background elements, poses, and text will not be able to pass in quests.
  • Content containing any AI generated images, text or assets will be denied. All literature submissions are run through AI detectors.
  • Traced or heavily referenced drawings, and plagiarized text is not allowed.
You are not required to stick to the same style with artworks and literature, as long as it otherwise meets the Quality Standards.
Styles that are very simplified compared to your regular art might receive reduced EXP, and anything over-simplified to the point where it starts to interfere with rendering or recognizability might be rejected.

Galleries & Creator Credit

Submissions must be uploaded to a gallery

As per the Quality Standards, all submissions are compared to the creator's gallery to ensure they are a similar quality to their usual works, and to make sure they are credited for their work! Galleries and bodies of work that are linked will be treated as the frame of reference when submissions are checked. This means that if the style of the work is drastically different than the gallery, this may affect the passability of the submission, or how EXP is calculated. This also means that galleries should have similar mediums to compare to, such as literature entries existing alongside more literature entries.

Galleries can either be on-site or off-site.

On-site gallery

The Lorekeeper site allows you to submit images and literature that you created, or collaborated on yourself, into a PA specific gallery! This gallery can be used in place of an off-site gallery to host images and literature. If other players upload images for you into their own PA gallery, you can use those links as well. These images will also show up in the gallery of linked imports, accessed through the left sidebar on their pages, near the top of the list.

The gallery can be found under 'Browse > Gallery'. From here you can find each section to upload and click the plus (+) symbol to the right of the folder title to start uploading. Note that for Activity submissions, you will need to submit to the correct sub-gallery folder; not the overall Activity Artwork folder! For example, Aging Quests should go into the Aging sub-gallery. To upload to sub-galleries, click the sub-gallery name and it will take you to a new page which has a 'Submit' button in the top right. Literature uploads also have a separate section.

Submitting to the gallery does not award loot or EXP. These still need to be processed through a quest submission or EXP Check-Ins.

Off-site galleries

Submissions from off-site must be within the creator's gallery both for crediting purposes and to compare previous works.

  • Works submitted directly into public galleries on art sites or social medias do not need an additional credit link, as long as there is an existing gallery to compare to.
  • Submissions that are a direct link and not within a gallery will not be accepted, this includes Google Docs and deviantArt Sta.sh.
  • Public character storage sites such as Toyhou.se can also be used as long as the gallery of the creator is linked in the credit area.
-- If the creator's gallery link is their Toyhou.se account, then you can use Toyhou.se images credited to their Toyhou.se account.
-- If the credits on Toyhou.se link to a gallery that is not another Toyhou.se account, then it counts as a direct link and isn't acceptable unless the creator does not upload the piece to their public gallery.

Corrections & Time Limits

Prompts with time limits must be created during the duration of the limit, for example seasonal and event quests. This means works created prior to the start of the event or season cannot be submitted for those prompts.
This does not apply to quests that are always open, such as normal hunting quests.

Time-limited activities also have a time limit on corrections, which usually starts when the activity closes for submissions
  • Seasonal quests have a correction time limit of one month
  • Event prompts have a correction time limit of two weeks

However, if your time-limited submission has not been sent back before the activity closes,
then the above timer will only start once a mod replies to the original submission. This makes your due date for resubmission count from when the first correction comment was made. For example, if you receive your first reply three days after submissions close, you will have an additional three days after the publicly announced cut-off date. The timer does not extend further if its sent back for additional corrections.

Time limited activity corrections that are not resubmitted by the due date can still be used for regular quest submissions - however they will still need to meet the requirements for those other prompts!

Corrections must be made by the original creator

Unless there is documented permission from the creator, you are not allowed to alter someone else’s work in order to make it usable for a quest. This includes creators both within the group and outside of the group.

Corrections should re-use the original submission draft
Please do not create a whole new submission for a correction. Doing this removes the moderator comment and context for the correction which can lead to delays or even issues getting the correction approved. The only exception to this is if an image was fully rejected - in these cases, you can link the original rejected submission or note the submission ID number.
